Let’s be brave enough to believe things can change

When life feels hard, it’s easy to believe it will always be this way. When fear, shame or exhaustion become familiar, hope can start to feel like it belongs to other people.
But change isn’t reserved for the lucky or the strong. It’s possible for anyone - even when it feels out of reach.

Change doesn’t happen all at once. It builds slowly, through small acts of courage - noticing when something isn’t right, asking for help, and believing that life can be different from what it is today.

Healing often begins in quiet, personal moments - the first step, the first conversation, the first thought that maybe things don’t have to stay the same.

You don’t have to have it all together to begin again. Healing isn’t about forgetting the past; it’s learning to live differently because of it.

If you’re ready to take your own first step:

  • Talk to someone you trust - a friend, GP or counsellor.

  • Reach out to a support service if you need confidential advice.

  • Take one small action each day that reminds you you’re still here, still capable of change.

Change doesn’t happen overnight, but it does happen - with time, with courage, and with help.

Jelena's message - You can do it too.

We were thrilled to welcome Jelena Dokic to Deniliquin for our Brave Enough campaign.

She spoke with warmth, honesty and courage and reminded us that bravery is about facing what’s hard, asking for help, and believing that life can be different.

“I don’t think I will ever get over what I have been through. But I won’t be defined by it; I am now determined to grow from it and be stronger and wiser because of it.”— Jelena Dokic, Fearless

Change doesn’t happen in one leap

It happens slowly, through small, quiet acts of courage - noticing when something feels off, opening up to someone you trust, or simply allowing yourself a little hope again.

You don’t need to have all the answers before you begin. Healing isn’t about forgetting what’s happened; it’s about finding new ways to live with what you’ve been through, and giving yourself permission to grow.

“Gratitude has played a significant role in my recovery; its practice has been part of my healing.”— Jelena Dokic, Fearless

Hope takes courage

There are moments when change feels impossible - when it’s hard to imagine things being any different. But as Jelena reminded us, healing can begin with the smallest step: talking to someone, reaching out for help, or choosing kindness towards yourself.

“I thought for a long time that I could run away from my problems and trauma, but I know now that is not possible.”— Jelena Dokic, Fearless
