NEW DATE FOR THE SUICIDE PREVENTION WALK
NEW DATE FOR THE SUICIDE PREVENTION WALK

Due to the weather forecast, the event has been postponed. It will now be held on Wednesday 17 September, in Waring Gardens from 11:00am to 1:00pm.The program includes a short walk at 11:30am, a community lunch at 12:00pm, and another walk at 12:30pm. Everyone is welcome to join for all, or part of the activity, to show support, connect, and stand with the community.

This year’s theme, “We All Have a Role to Play – and it Starts with a Conversation,” reminds us that suicide prevention begins with small but powerful steps. Checking in when we’re concerned, asking directly, listening with compassion, and encouraging professional help can save lives. Suicide is preventable — but stigma and silence must be broken.

Local swimmer Brenda Norman has shown what determination can achieve, completing the gruelling North Channel Swim through her Channel4Change initiative. Brenda is raising funds for the Deniliquin Mental Health Awareness Group (Deni MHAG) to deliver more free Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training. Importantly, every dollar raised stays in Deniliquin, supporting local mental health and wellbeing initiatives.

A huge thank you to everyone who has already donated. Brenda’s fundraising page remains open during September and Mental Health Month (October). Together, by walking, talking, supporting and learning new skills, we can make a real difference in Deniliquin.

Any businesses or organisations wanting to support the free delivery of MHFA training in Deniliquin can reach out to Lourene on 0428281060 or denimhag@gmail.com to arrange a tax-deductible donation.

This walk is made possible with funding received from Deniliquin Community Group Inc.
